Education & Technical Director
Volleyball has been a part of my life for almost three decades, and after many years, I am so excited to be part of a company who are solely focused on improving our sport. I’ve taken up numerous roles throughout my time in the volleyball world, most proudly as the Founder and President of New Forest Volleyball. I’ve played competitively for many years, and also turned my hand to coaching both the ladies and men across all age groups most recently in my career. Off court, I work with local and national organisations and businesses and sporting partners/sponsors on innovation to drive our club forward.
My proudest volleyball achievements to date have to be winning the National Children’s Coach of the Year title in 2011, guiding the New Forest Ladies to the National Finals in 2012 and coaching the New Forest Men’s and Ladies’ squads to their respective National League titles in 2016. After immersing myself within the sport and working with elite level coaches and players, I can’t wait to work with more like-minded, talented people and share my passion. For a sport that is largely hidden in school sports halls, we hope to raise the profile of volleyball within the UK, so more people see just how wonderful our sport is.
Alongside volleyball, I’ve been working in secondary education for 15 years, predominantly as an ICT subject leader and teacher of PE. At Total Volleyball, I’ll be pairing my technical knowledge and educational experience of sport to enhance the programme. As a coach I’ve been fortunate enough to work with countless talented players and look forward to developing the next generation of athletes by supporting teachers in their delivery of sport across the UK. I very much look forward to seeing you at one of our events in the near future!
As a Board Director of New Forest Volleyball since 2016, and with two children of her own who are keen players of the game I am extremely passionate about the development of talent in young people in volleyball. I’ve spent 8 years living in the USA and was exposed to the commercial expertise and potential of sports coaching as a business, and the desire for self-improvement, training and education among young players.
I also have over 20 years in a corporate business environment, and I’m therefore focused on the business management side of Total Volleyball, ensuring we deliver quality training and relevant education programmes to the world of volleyball!
Hello, my name is Dave Gunter. I’m really excited to be involved with Total Volleyball, who share my passion for developing this fantastic sport. Whether working with players or coaches my aim is to help them develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of the sport, whilst remembering we should be enjoying the process!
I have coached and tutored many sports, including skiing, sailing and windsurfing, in a 30-year professional coaching career. The first sport I ever coached though was volleyball – having played local and national league volleyball, for several years, I was quickly picked out as the obvious (only!) choice to coach my college team, whilst completing my degree. Looking back that was when I fell in love with coaching. Guiding a disparate group of rugby, netball, football and tennis players into teams, that could play a reasonable game of volleyball, I found extremely satisfying and rewarding, so my love of coaching was born.
Volleyball started my love of coaching, but it wasn’t until 2007 that I completed my 1st volleyball coaching award! Since then I have completed all levels of Volleyball England Coaching course, become a Volleyball England Tutor and attended many volleyball and generic coaching clinics. I’m am now retired from ’real’ work and devote much of my time to volleyball coaching, tutoring and the development of the sport in general.
I am proud to have coached teams to National Cup Final success (Wessex U18 girls 2015-16) and BUCS Divisional titles (Southampton University Women 2017-18 and 2018-19), but I am equally as proud when I see a young person I coached still involved in the game several years later, hopefully I have had a similar impact on that young person as my 1st coach did on me in 1976! I would love to share my passion, thoughts and ideas with you and hope to see you on a Total Volleyball clinic or camp in the future.
